This combination plus the lack of commute makes for a fantastic work life balance here. We have a number of opportunities available for House Officers who are seeking a Southern lifestyle. You will have a minimum of one year post graduate medical experience in and be eligible for, or already hold, registration with Medical Council of NZ. Teaching and training is important to us here in Dunedin and that is why our RMOs have a protected session every week. In addition, there are a number of other regular activities that House Officers can join in on. Whether it is the regular House Officer Education sessions or the journal clubs, X-ray meetings or rounds from the various services; there is always something happening. Depending on your interest, we have a number of runs available for you to work in. These include: Medical Oncology ENT Gastroenterology Ophthalmology / Neurology Haematology Neurosurgery Respiratory Cardiothoracic Surgery Cardiology Orthopaedics Renal General Surgery including Urology and Vascular General Medicine Psychiatry Older Peoples Health While the above runs are available each quarter, we also have several 6 month runs available as well. If your interest lies in these specialties, please indicate your preferences in your cover letter. If we don’t hear from you, we will assume you are applying for a general role. The runs are: ED O&G Paediatrics Note that 6 months runs will occur January to July and July to January. All internal Dunedin Hospital applicants, please also contact the RMO Unit directly. Requirements As noted above, you will have at least one years’ postgraduate experience and be eligible for, or already hold, registration in New Zealand with Medical Council of NZ. You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand, and be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. These Consultants should have supervised your day-to-day clinical work and one of the referees provided must be from your current or most recent employer. Please ensure you advise your referees of their nomination so they are aware they will be contacted by Southern DHB. Candidates who are not currently registered with the New Zealand Medical Council should be aware that it is a requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible so as to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
