    • Emerge Aotearoa is a social services organisation providing a range of services to whānau, including Health and Disability, Youth and Emergency and Transitional Housing. Our kaimahi all have a common goal – helping people realise their potential with the aim of supporting people to live their best life as independently as possible.

    Our Service:

    The Napier Housing Team is a vibrant group of people who support whānau in Emergency and Transitional Housing across Napier and Hastings. The mahi we do is vital to achieving the goal of long term, sustainable housing for whānau, while working alongside other support services. Our service is growing to meet the needs of whānau, and we are looking to recruit staff to help us empower our clients in their housing journey.

    About the role:

    Providing support from within our Emergency Housing service, this role is focused on housing and connecting whānau with the community. You will be focused on guiding tenants through the Ministry of Social Development system, health and education services where required, to enable whānau to reconnect by using your community connections to become involved in the wider community.

    Ideally you will have experience working within the mental health sector and be linked with agencies throughout the Hawkes Bay community to support whānau for the best outcome possible.

    We have two permanent full time positions that are Monday – Friday between the hours of 8.00am – 8.00pm.

    You will enjoy working creatively and autonomously. You will work effectively in a team and be able to communicate easily with a variety of people. You will need to think on your feet, remain calm under pressure and really encourage our clients along their journey.

    You’ll naturally be a problem solver, quick thinker and enjoy connecting with the community. Use your non-judgemental attitude and belief to encourage clients to change and grow.

    Duties of the role could include:

  • Coordinating with your colleagues in tandem to support whānau through their journey
  • Supporting whānau with their goals and daily tasks
  • Liaising and researching other appropriate organisations in the Hawkes Bay community
  • Conducting and writing assessments and support letters
  • Responding to urgent matters and ensuring safety concerns are addressed
  • Providing support at meetings

    •   What you need:

  • It’s essential that you have a full New Zealand driving licence
  • Previous experience working within emergency housing or in a similar role
  • Proven relationship management skills and experience
  • Strong computer skills, a ‘can-do’ attitude and be able to demonstrate strong personal and professional boundaries
  • Knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 will be advantageous
  • It’s desirable that you’ll have a level 4 or 5 qualification in Mental Health and Addiction or Social Services.
