NIWA is a dynamic research organisation whose purpose is to enhance the economic value and sustainable management of New Zealand’s aquatic resources and environments, to provide understanding of climate and the atmosphere and increase resilience to weather and climate hazards to improve safety and wellbeing of New Zealanders. NIWA is New Zealand’s largest and pre-eminent provider of climate, freshwater and marine science. We are seeking an early or mid-career Hydrological Scientist to contribute to research and consulting projects in a range of hydrological activities including flow characterisation, hydrological modelling and water resources management. Typically, project work will include the development and use of catchment-scale surface water and groundwater models; regional-scale water-resource planning; and the use and application of our national flow prediction tools. This position will offer exciting opportunities to work on multidisciplinary projects, and with range of NIWA scientists, stakeholders from national and regional government, and the private sector. For this position, we are seeking a team-player with a positive, proactive, and problem-solving attitude, who is enthusiastic about contributing to hydrological science in New Zealand. The successful candidate will have a PhD in hydrology or equivalent, have excellent analytical skills, some field work experience, and a working knowledge of hydrological tools and water management practices and policies in New Zealand.
