Imaging & Digitisation Technician in a Natural Science CollectionWe are seeking a talented imaging and digitisation technician with a high level of independence, initiative, and excellent attention to detail to work alongside scientists, curators, and technical staff in the New Zealand Arthropod Collection (The National Collection of insects & other invertebrates). About the opportunityThe main purpose of this role is to provide specialist imaging and graphics in support of research and scientific publications on the taxonomy and systematics of insects and other invertebrates. Another significant role is to participate in the day-day digitisation and collection management within the New Zealand Arthropod Collection, including data capture from specimens, data management, editing records, and using collection management software.This position is open term (permanent), full time, and based at our Auckland site.About youYou will possess a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., natural sciences, museum or library studies, photography and imaging, archives, data management).You will have experience in digital photography, digital imaging, and a thorough knowledge of micro- and macro-photography techniques. Proficiency in the use of image processing and editing software is important and proven experience in the maintenance of photographic and imaging equipment and trouble-shooting software/hardware issues is a must.Experience working in a museum, library, archive, or other collection-based institution and managing small teams is preferred. Knowledge of natural sciences, particularly in entomology, invertebrate zoology, and systematics would be an advantage.Experience in data entry, digital asset management systems, database, or record management are important skills; as are familiarity with data capture, data quality best practices and metadata standards.We are looking for someone who is open to learning new skills and who has a flexible attitude in the type of day-day tasks that need to be carried out.
