What you will do

You will provide information management leadership for the development and delivery of fit for purpose information management services to support the NZDF’s evolving needs.  You will also participate in the cross functional and collaborative development and delivery of information management initiatives that contribute to building the NZDF’s Digital Workplace. You will be part of the team delivering the information experience NZDF members and the broader Defence Community need to do the task at hand.

We are looking for a talented Information Consultant who has a reputation for developing excellent working relationships.  You will be curious and know how to ask good questions and understand what an organisation really needs. You won’t be afraid to challenge the status quo. You can keep your cool in high pressure situations and you relish working in a greenfields environment.

You will be a sharp thinker with a proven track record of collaboratively developing useful, usable solutions. You leave the tech speak at the door and earn the respect of colleagues through both what you do and the way you do it.

You have experience working in organisations that are transitioning to predominantly digital information management and are familiar applying good practice records management in a pragmatic way.

The NZDF Strategy25 positions information as a strategic asset and that it’s a key enabler to operational effectiveness and the integration of the Defence Force through the provision of quality information for decision making.

The Knowledge and Information Management Directorate (KIMD) is the NZDF’s centre of information management excellence responsible for ensuring the NZDF is deriving value from its information asset, by leveraging it for broader effect.  We provide leadership and expertise on how the NZDF can better govern, manage and use its information for best effect and are working to build our people capability so everyone has the confidence and ability to make information led decisions.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
