  • About the roles

    The Wellington District Intelligence Unit supports NZ Police leaders and officers to prevent crime and harm through exceptional policing in Wellington District. Intelligence is used to inform deployment of resources, understand the criminal environment and crime problems, and facilitate evidence-based action and prevention.

    We are looking to recruit two analysts to join the team based in Wellington CBD. This could include the appointment of an applicant at a Senior Analyst level.

    As an Analyst you will consult a range of information sources, use analytical tools and techniques to understand complex policing problems, and develop compelling advice to inform prevention and enforcement. You will also start/continue your journey of learning and development as a skilled Intelligence Professional.

    As a Senior Analyst, as well as demonstrating best practice intelligence tradecraft and principles, you will play a key role in the coaching and development of others, and foster a positive and productive team culture.

    These positions would be ideal for analysts wanting the opportunity to broaden their range/experience or take the next step in their career, or someone new to or taking the next step in NZ Police Intelligence and would like to learn and develop under the guidance of an experienced analytical team.

    Key Accountabilities:

  • Proactively identify and analyze emerging or escalating trends in crime, crash and community reassurance, and propose potential solutions
  • Apply analytical thinking skills and crime science theory to the analysis of crime issues
  • Collaborate on projects and group analysis
  • Contribute to core intelligence reporting and deliverables of the Unit
  • Develop and maintain a wide range of professional relationships
  • Take ownership of work through to the delivery of expected outcomes
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • A committed and positive attitude towards teamwork and professional development
  • (Senior Analyst) Regular peer review and project coaching
  • (Senior Analyst) Leading development of people, products, and processes
  • If shortlisted for an Analyst role, you will be required to submit a short, written work sample.

    If shortlisted for a Senior Analyst role, you will be required to submit a portfolio of work to be assessed prior to interview.

    Previous experience working in or with intelligence is advantageous but not required. We are interested in receiving applications from a range of backgrounds and people who have worked in public or private sector who are excited about a career in NZ Police intelligence.

    Special Requirements

  • Applicants must be an NZ or Australian citizen, or a permanent NZ resident to apply for this position
  • Successful applicant must reside in Wellington
  • Hold the NZ Diploma in Intelligence Analysis (NZDIA) or equivalent or able to complete NZDIA modules early in employment
  • Able to obtain and maintain an appropriate national security clearance ()
