Intermediate Criminal Defence Lawyer, Christchurch Public Defence Service
We are looking for an Intermediate lawyer, with a speciality in criminal advocacy, to join the team in our central city office. As a team of around 26 legal and support staff we enjoy a busy and varied workplace and we work well as a team, supporting one-another and sharing knowledge and experience.
The Public Defence Service (PDS) is New Zealand’s largest criminal law practice, providing high quality legal advice and representation in a full range of criminal cases. Aimed at helping people access justice, the PDS promotes the values of respect, integrity, service and the delivery of excellent service to its clients. In this role you are the voice of some of the most marginalised people in the criminal justice system.
You will find challenge and satisfaction with the varied caseload, including high profile cases and the opportunity for High Court and Court of Appeal trials and appearances. You will have colleagues around you who you can learn from and who will support your development to the next level of your career, and a comprehensive professional development programme. The work comes to the PDS via Legal Aid and you will be supported by professional administrators.

Salary range: $79,326 to $111,989
