If you want a career where you help to grow New Zealand in a very real way, then this is it.

Mō tō mātou rōpūAbout our team

Climate change is a global issue that will affect all countries. New Zealand’s economy relies on our environment and the primary production it supports. Emissions from the agricultural sector make up nearly half of the total emissions from New Zealand.

The role involves leading a high-profile programme and its team to focus on building New Zealand’s climate change evidence base for primary industries. This evidence base also supports the primary sector and rural communities to improve resilience by enhancing farming knowledge and enabling effective farmer support.

You will be leading the ‘Inventory’ team that is responsible for providing advice, reporting, projections and research on New Zealand’s agriculture and forestry greenhouse gas sector. The team produces the annual agriculture Inventory, projections towards our targets, and undertakes an annual research improvement programme. The team also plays an important role in supporting the Global Research Alliance, the UNFCCC review programme, and cross agency agriculture and forestry work programmes.

The team undertakes exciting and interesting projects that make a difference. This is a fascinating and highly topical area to be working in, one that is a priority for governments all over the world, particularly ours.

We are a warm and collaborative team, who work hard to achieve the best outcomes for New Zealand. The Inventory team sits within the Climate Change On-farm Pricing and Inventory Policy team in the Policy and Trade Branch of MPI.
