Mō te tūnga | About the roles 

Following the enactment the Climate Change Response (Zero Carbon) Amendment Act 2019, our role at the Ministry for the Environment is now focussed on developing policies and laws that will drive the transition to a low emissions economy and enable our communities to adapt to the impacts of climate change. 

We are looking for an experienced Policy Analyst to support the implementation of our climate change work programme, including the development of national direction under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) on greenhouse gas emissions. 

You will work closely with our Senior Policy Analysts to support Ministry Directors and Managers to provide comprehensive, innovative and high quality advice.

  • understanding of climate change issues (both mitigation and adaptation)
  • experience providing advice to senior leaders
  • strong stakeholder management and engagement skills across diverse groups
  • commitment to developing cultural capability and capacity in te ao Māori
  • experience delivering quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • an agile, adaptive and solutions-focussed approach, with a desire to make a difference
  • experience in developing regulations and legislation (desirable)
  • understanding of the RMA and planning processes (desirable).
