ESR is a Crown Research Institute, working with and for clients and stakeholders to deliver enhanced scientific research services for the economic, environmental and social wellbeing of New Zealand. ESR has approximately 400 staff with sites across New Zealand.

We are currently seeking someone with a great attitude and the skills to match to take up a permanent Laboratory Informatician role within our Intelligence for Action team in Kenepuru

Your New Role

Reporting to the Manager, Data and Informatics the Laboratory Informatician is part of and works closely with the Health and Environment Group, in particular the laboratories. It ensures information from laboratories is up to date and accurate. The role also works closely with epidemiologists, analysts, public health physicians in the Health Intelligence Team to lead the surveillance and integrated data management activity ESR undertakes on behalf of the Ministry of Health. The role will support the process of integrating public health information, working closely with the Business Services group and the sector to ensure our systems are appropriate for public health. Travel will be required to other ESR sites.

Key accountabilities include:

Deliver and support the configuration and management of the Laboratory Information Management System and Clinical Data Repository

Deliver integrated data management services to support the management of notifiable and non-notifiable disease data and systems

Complete laboratory and outbreak surveillance and reporting for prevention and control of disease

Provide support to the wider Health & Environment Group to ensure capability development is supported and operational and strategic goals or deliverables are met .

What you’ll need to succeed

A relevant tertiary qualification or significant experience, in medical or environmental science or a closely related field

Previous experience with a Laboratory Information Management System and Clinical Data Repository (Sysmex Eclair)

Surveillance systems knowledge

Health or Public Health information management experience

Expert knowledge of laboratory information standards and their application, including SNOMED CT, LOINC, HL7 and FHIR

A minimum two years’ experience in health sector information systems.

Data and information management skills and experience with public health.

An understanding of Health IT systems and health informatics.

Experience with SQL and Reporting Services

Experience analysing health information and in data management

Experience in health-related field , epidemiology, microbiology, nursing, public health, biostatistics or experience in carrying out health research.
