What you will do

As the Lead Advisor Organisational Development you will be responsible for leading the design and delivery of cross NZDF OD initiatives that align to our organisational and people strategy and build the capability and engagement of our people using a member (people) centred approach. Your key pieces of work will be reviewing our professional development framework and culture measurement and change. The role also provides strong intellectual and professional leadership to a range of Organisational Development areas.

As a senior member of the OD Directorate, the Lead Advisor is also responsible for contributing and leading contemporary OD thinking and supporting the Director Organisational Development to shape and deliver a broad and integrated OD framework that builds the capability and engagement of our people

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Extensive success working on large scope, high complexity projects, managing to successful conclusion, on time, scope and within budget;
  • Experience measuring and shifting organisational culture;
  • Demonstrated ability influencing and persuading others to accept a view, argument or action that promotes organisational success and achievement and diplomatically negotiate outcomes under conflicting priorities;
  • Excellent oral and written communications, including the ability to present complex issues clearly and concisely in a user-centred manner;
  • The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across a large organisation;
  • Strong technical skill and deep, critical thinking.

This is a 12 month fixed term position.

Who we are

The purpose of the OD Programmes team is to ensure that the NZDF has the organisation and culture capable of delivering on the Government’s outcomes and priorities, and the NZDF’s business strategy.

The OD Programmes team develops, implements and manages policies and processes for the people dimensions of change across the NZDF and strategic people capability initiatives.  They work closely with other business groups to provide change support for large programmes and to understand the impact of proposed changes on future capability needs.

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
