We arelooking for an experienced legal professional to join our Corporate Team tomanage our legal services team, our external legal relationships and to provideadvice to key internal customers.
As ourLegal Services Manager, you will be key in enabling Council to obtain the best adviceas needed. You’ll achieve this through providing proficient legal advice orinstructing appropriate external providers, assessing and highlighting legalrisks to relevant management or governance bodies, and optimising resources tomeet our organisation’s legal needs. This role also manages a small team thatensures the public has access to all appropriate information held by Counciland has accountability for effective and timely development and review ofCouncil’s public policies and bylaws.
To besuccessful in this role you will have a legal qualification and bring provenexperience in providing in-house legal counsel preferably in a large publicorganisation, or in a law firm advising public sector clients (includingterritorial authorities). You’ll have the ability to provide robust advice,whilst remaining pragmatic to the needs of the business and effectivelybalancing risk. The successful candidate will also hold a currentpracticing certificate from the NZ Law Society or be able to obtain one.
Alongwith your experience, you’ll demonstrate positive influencing skills and beconfident to challenge the status quo with clients and providers asappropriate. You’ll have strong leadership qualities, demonstrated eitherthrough experience as a manager or more informally. You will have an eye fordetail and bring with you in-depth working experience within the legal servicesindustry. Your proven business, strategic and political acumen will enable youto achieve success as a trusted partner within our organisation.

The recruiting range for this role is set at$120,000 per annum and will be negotiated with the successful candidate inaccordance with skills, knowledge and experience.
