    Key responsibilities:

    The Major Development Interface Lead is a key part of our Development Planning team, having a lead role in shaping the outcomes from significant urban development projects such as the Auckland Housing Programme and large scale multi stage subdivisions by providing technical direction prior to and as part of consent processes to ensure the form and function of these new developments integrates with and supports transport system outcomes. The design of streets, paths, lanes and links – the movement network – is one of the most important considerations in creating vibrant, safe and prosperous places.

     Understanding the broader transport system is critical to this role and requires an excellent and detailed understanding of the broader transport system needs and objectives, opportunities and risks and the complex planning and funding ecosystem in which this is achieved. 

    In this role you will:

  • have a significant role in Auckland Transport’s early engagement with developers for complex developments, collaboratively working with a diverse range of multi-disciplinary teams across Auckland Transport to provide expert advice.
  • take the lead and provide subject matter expertise to developers and Auckland Council prior to and as part of consenting processes, including a comprehensive transport specialist response on development proposals – relevant specialist commentary covering all modes (such as public transport, walking, and cycling) and strategic aspects of neighbourhood and street design and the integration with land use.
  • be a key account interface, with a lead role in building and enhancing key relationships with major developers and customers for a wide range of Auckland’s significant development projects.
  • work with these customers to gain insights and improve systems, processes and relationships.
  • ensure there is a specific focus on the successful delivery of a customer focussed approach, high quality professional inputs, and robust communication and decision-making processes.
  • Key requirements:

    Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Significant experience in transport planning, land use planning and/or resource management planning, supported by a qualification in Transport Planning, Planning, or related discipline.
  • Significant experience in subdivision, neighbourhood and street design, with an understanding of ‘Vision Zero’ being desirable.
  • An excellent understanding and knowledge urban planning policies, the Resource Management Act, and local government legislation
  • Expertise in engaging, facilitating, and negotiating with a range of stakeholders and a strong focus on customer service.
