About this role On behalf of the Minister of Research, Science and Innovation, the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is seeking applications from suitably experienced candidates to be directors of Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research New Zealand Limited (Manaaki Whenua).Manaaki Whenua is a Crown Research Institute (CRI) with the core purpose of driving innovation in New Zealand’s management of terrestrial biodiversity and land resources in order to both protect and enhance the terrestrial environment and grow New Zealand’s prosperity. Manaaki Whenua is responsible for supporting New Zealand to develop a sustainable relationship with our land, through the delivery of exceptional science across a wide range of disciplines.MBIE is now seeking new directors for the Manaaki Whenua Board. We welcome applications from candidates who want to be considered for these key roles, and who demonstrate a number of the following attributes: Solid science knowledge/experience (chemistry or environmental science / experience with catchment scale research would be useful).Knowledge/experience with the science funding system.Regulatory experience.Crown sector/public service experience and an understanding of machinery of GovernmentPrimary sector/local government experience.Connectivity with universities.Connectivity with, and experience collaborating with the science sector.Sustainability focus.Change management skills may also be useful.Experience working with rural Iwi. Candidates will be expected to have a genuine interest in Manaaki Whenua’s work, as well as the motivation and availability needed to be able to effectively carry out the role of a Manaaki Whenua Board director.This is a contestable process and applications will be assessed according to the skills and experience the Manaaki Whenua Board requires at this particular time.
