Do you have what it takes to lead, manage and develop a team of expert analysts and provide the direction and environment to manage all aspects of research and evaluation?  If so, we have an opportunity to join our Evidence, Data and Knowledge group.

We have an opportunity to lead our Analytics and Insights team. Reporting to the Group Manager Analysis, Research and Evaluation, you will lead the integration of analysis, research and evaluation and for the provision of information to strengthen the knowledge base about achievement and system performance.

As well as enabling you to lead the provision of accessible, tailored, accurate information, data and advice, your well-developed analytical skills mean that you will be well placed to drive and initiate more complex projects requiring special analyses and understanding of learner assessment data for a range of users.

You will need to work closely with analysts and policy advisors, both within and outside the Ministry. Your work will play a key role supporting the Ministry’s policy advice to Government on a major area of the economy.

To be successful you will need to demonstrate:

  • experience leading an innovative team with a results-driven culture and customer focus
  • ability to realise the full potential of your people and your function
  • technical knowledge and expertise
  • experience influencing policy makers, sector leaders and members, opinion leaders and senior managers
  • ability to communicate your and your teams’ ideas effectively orally and in writing, including negotiating and facilitating skills
  • ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, some at a high level
  • organisational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple competing demands.

Knowledge and understanding of relevant professional research codes and standards are also highly desirable.

The position is one-year fixed-term, although we are open to six- or nine-month or secondment arrangements.  It is located in the Ministry of Education’s Wellington Office.
