Manager Development, Integrated Data

Stats NZ s integrated data is a critical tool in the government s efforts to reduce poverty, improve health, and provide a growing, inclusive economy. It enables researchers to gain evidence-based insights, and to measure the effectiveness of government initiatives and services.

The Integrated Data unit is seeking a confident, strategic, data-system savvy and engaging individual ready to lead a small and innovative team focused on improving our integrated data services.

What the Integrated Data unit does

The Integrated Data unit provides a world leading integrated data service for our customers. This is largely through two integrated data products, the Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI) and the Longitudinal Business Database (LBD).

Stats NZ has only scratched the surface of what is possible with integrated data. As people have seen the potential, the number of users and demands have changed and grown rapidly. The Integrated Data unit is at an exciting place. We need people who can look ahead and help us get ready for growing demand and new requirements.

The focus for this role

The Manager Development, Integrated Data is responsible for planning and implementing work to ensure our integrated data service is fit for purpose now and in the future.

Future thinking and vision for the unit is a strong component of the work in this team. The continued growth and sustainability of the IDI is the current focus area for the development team. Work is underway to redesign IDI production processes, ensure we have scalable infrastructure for our services, and to improve access pathways for our customers.

The Manager Development role requires strategic thinking skills, and a strong customer and outcomes focus. We re looking for someone who is:

  • a sound decision maker
  • comfortable challenging the status quo
  • confident with data-system-level thinking
  • skilled in identifying and managing risk 
  • quick to build rapport with a diverse range of people
  • comfortable leading in a fluid environment

The main priorities and tasks for the manager role are to:

  • lead and motivate your team, providing development and growth opportunities
  • collaborate across the data-system to understand current and emerging needs
  • ensure the delivery of current projects through required resourcing and capability
  • lead innovation of production processes and future thinking for the unit
