Te āhuatunga a te tūranga/About the Role
The Governance team has been refreshed and we are searching for a Governance professional with advanced knowledge and skills to lead a small team and deliver on an ambitious work programme designed to lift the Governance maturity of the Ministry. This is a newly created position reporting directly to the General Manager, Governance and Assurance.
As the Manager, Governance you will be a trusted advisor supporting the GM and leading the team in the delivery of an effective and efficient system of governance for the Ministry.
In particular, the Manager is responsible for:
Overseeing the provision of secretariat and advisory services to the SLT Board and committees.
Delivering the Governance work programme.
Identifying and delivering improvements to governance systems and processes.
Making connections between governance committees and SLT Board to ensure end to end governance support and advice is provided.
Managing complex governance issues and assignments and acting as trusted advisor to the GM.
Contributing as a member of the GM’s leadership team and supporting her to deliver wider group priorities.
Managing, coaching and mentoring a solution focused Governance team.

He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing governance systems and processes
Proven experience managing efficient and effective secretariat services to a senior executive team or an advisory or statutory body
Sound understanding of the corporate governance environment, particularly in the public sector
Extensive experience developing and maintaining robust relationships with all parts of the business including Executive teams and Senior Managers
Proven capability to consider different perspectives and modes, future-oriented, able to recommend new and innovative processes or developments.
Proven experience leading, encouraging and motivating others, in both a formal and informal context.
Highly effective communication skills with an ability to communicate concisely and clearly in all mediums, and able to adapt style to meet the needs of the audience.
Sound analytic skills to gather all necessary information and produce thorough, objective and methodologically sound advice.
Sound understanding of the constitutional principles and legal processes that underpin the New Zealand justice system.
Proven record of delivering quality work including under tight time constraints.
Demonstrated experience exercising sound judgement and tact.
Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple items while maintaining high level of attention to detail.
