This is a newly created role being the story teller, ambassador and promoter of the many successes within the National Science Challenge – Science for Technological Innovation (the Challenge) – Kia Kotahi Mai: Te Ao Pūtaiao me Te Ao Hangarau.

The Challenge, one of 11 National Science Challenges, was launched in September 2015. We are one of New Zealand’s largest multi-organisational research teams collaborating with business to grow the New Zealand economy. The Challenge’s vision is that New Zealand is a vibrant and prosperous technology-driven economy, with new businesses offering high-value services and products that may not yet have been invented.

We need a self-managing strategic communicator who can identify the best ways and places to demonstrate the impact that the Challenge research can make. This role is about understanding where our research can benefit New Zealand and ensuring those messages are promoted to maximise impact opportunity. The successful candidate will be someone who knows how to target communication opportunities across a diverse science ecosystem for best effect. Success will be measured when we not only hear our stakeholders talking about our success, but where those stakeholders are also creating their own success because of knowing about SfTI.

  • develop strategic approaches to understanding the hi-tech science ecosystem and where and how to best communicate success
  • provide thought leadership and advice to the Challenge Board and Management team on how to ensure the Challenge mission can influence across the hi-tech science ecosystem
  • develop and implement a sophisticated stakeholder engagement plan that’s aimed at supporting mutually successful economic outcomes for Aotearoa-New Zealand
  • maintain and manage best practice communications, marketing and promotional activities across the Challenge that enhances the reputation and influence of our science and supports the delivery of the Challenge mission.
