  • Pivotal role taking a system-level view of the learning support needs of children and young people
  • Identify support gaps and improvement opportunitiesfor the $1 billion learning support portfolio

  • Lead budget, service design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation processes for new and existing services, with colleagues across the Ministry

About our group and team

Learning Support is a critical part of the Sector Enablement and Support Group in the Ministry. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with disabilities and additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education. One in five children and young people receive some form of learning support throughout their early learning and schooling education.

The Strategic Design team provides advice and guidance to Ministers, national and regional staff. They work closely with Ministry teams and other Government agencies to support the translation of high-level policy and strategic intent into the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of new and existing services and implementation approaches.

About this role

This is a key role working across the Ministry’s national and regional offices and with other agencies, leading system-level analysis of supports and services for children and young people with disabilities and learning support needs to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.

About you

We are looking for an experienced manager and leader. To be successful you will need:

  • At least five years’ experience working in a public sector agency
  • Experience in thinking strategically at an organisational level
  • The ability to lead with purpose across the organisation and group
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategies to achieve equitable outcomes for Māori and leading others to do the same
  • To be honest, courageous, curious, resilient, self-aware and agile.
