WorkSafe New Zealand, Mahi Haumaru Aotearoa, is seeking an experienced policy professional to lead our Operational Policy work programme.  This work ensures that WorkSafe has the policy foundation to effectively deliver on its core focus, that everyone who goes to work comes home healthy and safe. 

As Manager Operational Policy you will lead a high-performing team and help create the working environment and culture that encourages them to thrive.  You will work across WorkSafe to support and influence ways of operating that align with our strategic approach, and partner with other teams in the Regulatory Effectiveness Group to ensure collaboration and coordination of work, and a strong alignment between policy advice and operational practice.

Our aim is regulatory excellence, so you will champion the use of analytical frameworks and design approaches which are evidence-based and fit-for-purpose.  You will also be innovative in your approach, seeking to continuously develop and improve the team’s advice and products in a way that best achieves the outcomes that WorkSafe is seeking to achieve.

Ideally you will bring:

  • Strong experience in a senior policy role (preferably operational policy).
  • Critical thinking, research and analytical skills.
  • The leadership experience to manage and motivate a team of expert advisors
  • Experience building and maintaining credible, sustainable and productive relationships at senior levels across an organisation.
  • Experience developing and maintaining an environment focused on continuous improvement to enhance organisational performance.
  • Knowledge (or the ability to quickly learn) of the relevant legislation, and operational policy frameworks within WorkSafe.
