This is an exciting opportunity to play a lead role in driving the development of primary health care services in New Zealand.
The Primary Care team sits within the Ministry’s Health System Improvement and Innovation Directorate. The Directorate’s function is to support and promote innovation and continuous system improvement through quality commissioning and policy, effective regulation and evidence-based decision making.
The Primary Care team play an important role in what is a government and Ministry priority, as the Manager Primary Care you will be responsible for providing thought leadership in the area of primary care and in identifying and resolving cross-sector issues. You will lead, support and grow the Primary Care team members as well as ensuring the team produce high quality advice to provide to the Minister of Health. You be required to collaborate with primary care and cross-Ministry teams, district health boards (DHBs) and stakeholders whilst facilitating relationships across the sector to drive collaboration. You will manage a range of primary health care programmes, provide leadership for projects and oversee the provision of primary care related advice and reporting as it relates to the key accountability documents.
To be successful in this position you will need to demonstrate strong people leadership skills, influencing skills and have experience in leading a team that successfully delivers on a comprehensive and diverse work programme. An excellent understanding of the machinery of government, finances and key policies is also required. You will be a strategic thinker who can prioritise and adapt as well as being able to successfully deliver workplans, you will also have strong relationship building skills and proven experience in analysing and interpreting data. A tertiary qualification relating to the health and social services is required.
