Make it happen. Make the connection. Make it credible. Make a difference.
These are the values of Emergency Management Southland. These drive our team to encourage community engagement, a key part of Emergency Management, and a vital part in recent events such as the February 2020 Floods and on-going Covid-19 response.
We are currently looking for a switched-on, experienced leadership professional to join our Emergency Management Southland team as Manager/Group Controller.
About the role:
This role requires somebody with superb leadership skills, who will be ready to act in an emergency. The role also contributes nationally by engaging with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). You will be able to use your extensive emergency management knowledge to ensure that Southland is represented in national planning.
The day job involves taking a 4R’s approach to emergency management looking at reduction, readiness, response and recovery across a number of hazards, ensuring there is a plan in place and helping to make Southlanders part of a more resilient community.
This role requires a significant on-call commitment and you need to be prepared to step up at short notice for emergencies, which will involve working under pressure and with tight time constraints.
We need somebody who has experience in a relevant field, has great problem solving and communication skills with experience in community engagement. You will preferably have Civil Defence Controller training.
If you think you have these attributes and a strong strategic and planning focus, this may be the challenge you are looking for!
The shared services model of Emergency Management Southland put Southland at the forefront of emergency management in the country. The four Southland councils have a joint responsibility to coordinate the management of civil defence within Southland, through the Southland Civil Defence Emergency Management Group. Environment Southland hosts the Emergency Management Team in a purpose-built facility which can scale-up in an emergency response.
Here at Emergency Management Southland we actively enhance the experience of living and working in a sustainable region and our employees experience this first hand:
Southland is a great region, with a hugely diverse range of landscapes, from Fiordland to the Catlins, and home to people passionate about where they live.
An initial offer of remuneration will be made within the range $112,625-$125,875.
