The Team: What we do

Canterbury Health Laboratories is the largest medical laboratory in the South Island which is also a major secondary/tertiary referral centre. We have a modern and well-equipped lab including a good range of specialist equipment. Our laboratory is open 24 hours a day, providing timely results to our clinicians to ensure our patients are getting the right treatment, at the right time.

We’re seeking applications from NZ Registered Medical Laboratory Scientists to join our Microbiology department within our Bacteriology Lab. This is a full-time, fixed-term opportunity until approximately December 2020 which will see you working within a team of experienced laboratory professionals, managing a varied and challenging case load.

This position is Monday – Friday and will also require availability for weekend, on-call and Public Holiday rosters as required. There is also a midnight shift rotation you will be expected to take part in.

The Role: Where you fit in

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Providing diagnostic and specialist bacteriology testing for both hospital and referring laboratories
  • The effective and efficient use of laboratory information systems to register patients, input data, and access results
  • The maintenance and development of your own professional development
  • Providing a high quality service to clients

Your skills will include the following:

  • Being a highly motivated team player with excellent interpersonal skills and able to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • The ability to prioritise and multi-task as the situation demands
  • Experience within bacteriology is advantageous but not essential
  • You will be registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the New Zealand Medical Sciences Council, with a current Annual Practising Certificate
