Are you looking for a new challenge? We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Medical Secretary to join our friendly team in Southland Hospital on a full-time permanent basis.

About the role

The medical secretary’s key purpose is to effectively contribute to the smooth running of the service by providing an efficient and timely administrative support function that is responsive and flexible to the changing needs of the service.

This role provides medical secretarial/transcription services and administrative support for the Ophthalmology Department, as well as the booking and managing of patient activity. You will also ensure that the patient journey through the service is as stress free as possible, and is efficient in time and resource for the department.

The salary for this position is based on the PSA Collective Employment agreement, South Island Administrative MECA, salary scale S4, $45,580 – $53,259 per annum (pro rata).

About you

We are looking for a team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to deal with a variety of people and tasks, often all at the same time! Your background will be in varied administration positions that demonstrate your ability to provide high quality administration services within a busy office setting. Previous hospital administration experience and familiarity with iPM will be a huge advantage but we will also consider applicants that can show us they have transferable skills from previous roles.

To succeed in this role you will need to have:

  • demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with other professionals
  • excellent time management, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • the ability to be adaptable, flexible and solution focused
  • strong typing and computer skills are essential.
