About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Mining Engineer to join our team at Waikato North Head Mine Site. Based in Otaua (20 km outside of Pukekohe) and reporting to the Mine Manager this role requires a strong focus on short, medium and long-term mine planning/mine engineering excellence. You will be a key resource in the management of key projects, mine surveys and managing the mine site environmental plans and initiatives.

You will be expected to:

  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, corporate policy, company standards and key operation practices for Safety, environment, output, quality and cost
  • Identify opportunities to create greater efficiencies in mining & tailing operations
  • This is a key specialist role within the technical team, so you will therefore be expected to display strong initiative, work autonomously and be an effective and constructive team member, enhancing your own and colleagues personal development.

    Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Investigating and implement corrective actions and encouraging and recognizing safe work practices
  • Manage Geotechnical risk around principle hazards
  • Responsible for short term mine layout and reporting of deviation from plan. Development of machine GPS surfaces and ensuring these are closely followed
  • Develop robust medium-term mine and tailings plans. Provide input into long term mine design.
  • Plan optimal use of own time and resources
  • Develop own work plan for your job projects with regards to defined priorities
  • Give direction and strongly influence WNH Shift Supervisors to optimise extraction sequencing and plan future manning requirements
  • Direct and coach shift teams in delivering effective production outcomes in line with the mine and tailings plan
  • Permanent full-time role

    Role Location: Waikato North Head mine site, Otaua

    Hours: Monday – Friday 40 hours per week

You will also demonstrate that you have the following key skills, experience and qualifications.

  • Degree qualification in Geology or Mining Engineering
  • A Grade Quarry Managers Certificate preferred
  • 2 years experience in an Open Cut mining environment
  • Experience in mine planning / mining engineering and geological interpretation
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of mine planning / survey software
