Ministerial Appointed Board Members to the Tai Wānanga Board

The Tai Wānanga Board constitution currently allows for up to three members to be appointed by the Minister of Education.
About the School
The Tai Wānanga Board is responsible for the governance of the school’s two sites – Tu Toa in Palmerston North and Ruakura in Hamilton. The Board is the employer of school staff and sets the school’s overall strategic direction. Members of the Board work to ensure educational plans are in place and the goals of the school are met for the benefit of all students and their whānau.
Tai Wānanga’s mission is ‘to empower taiohi to achieve, to contribute and to lead the advancement of Māori’. Tai Wānanga offers a unique, holistic and tailored educational experience where learners aspirations and interests are nurtured with the focus on mental, physical, emotional and spiritual throughout the learning journey and towards a career aspiration plan.

Eligibility
Please note that Clauses 9 and 10 of Schedule 23 of the Education and Training Act 2020, list the categories of persons who are not eligible to be appointed as board members. Please refer to the attached document above regarding eligibility for this role.
