About the role:

A great opportunity has arisen for an Advisor/Senior Ministerial Services Advisor within a number of MBIE Business Groups. You will gain in-depth exposure to a wide range of policy and operational subject matter, work with stakeholders across MBIE, in Ministers’ offices and externally.   

Your core responsibilities will include providing advice and drafting replies to Ministerial correspondence and preparing responses to OIA requests within the required timeframes, collaborating with business groups to source information and advice, and ensuring consistent and quality service performance across MBIE.

 

Senior Ministerial Advisors are expected to:

  • Be self-starters and proactive
  • Provide sound technical advice on Ministerial Servicing matters to stakeholders and colleagues
  • Effective collaborators with management, subject matter experts, Ministers’ offices and ECoMs and Legal colleagues to identify and mitigate risk
  • Provide quality assurance, peer support and coaching as required
  • Contribute to a continuous improvement culture in the team through innovative ideas and a willingness to explore new operational delivery practices and approaches.

 

Skills and Experience: (Senior Advisor)

  • Experience in writing responses to OIAs and Ministerial correspondence, and a readiness to respond to other requests for ministerial writing services (e.g. PQs)
  • Innovation and eagerness to explore and evaluate new operational delivery practices
  • Ability to produce and recognise high quality work and provide peer support, coaching and technical advice to colleagues
  • Ability to focus on both strategic and operational issues
  • A demonstrated ability to form robust professional working relationships, which includes collaboration and co-operation with internal and external stakeholders when developing new models and systems
  • Highly developed customer service skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an eye for detail and a high level of accuracy
  • The ability to quickly assimilate new information or areas of work
  • The ability to work well under pressure, and to tight timeframes
  • Capacity to multitask effectively, with an adaptable working style
  • Can-do attitude and a high level of initiative, sound judgement and discretion
  • Political acumen and sound knowledge of Parliamentary and government structures and processes
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.

  • Capacity to multi-task effectively, with an adaptable and flexible working style
  • Ability to assimilate new information or areas of work quickly
  • Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships
  • Ability to work well under pressure, and to tight timeframes
  • Can-do attitude and a high level of initiative, sound judgement and discretion
  • Proven ability to develop trust and credibility with managers and staff
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Political acumen and sound knowledge of Parliamentary and government structures and processes
    • Experience in writing responses to OIAs and Ministerial correspondence would be helpful.
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
