As an Auckland court reporter for the New Zealand Herald – thecountry’s leading newsroom – you’ll have the chance to cover some of NewZealand’s most high-profile cases and trials.
Our reporters are the public’s eyes and ears in the courtroom andplay a vital role in ensuring the country’s justice system is transparent andopen.
As well as coverage inside the courtroom, you’ll tell the storiesof the victims of crime and the offenders who carried it out.
You’ll be comfortable both reporting from the press bench anddigging deep into cases to hunt our fresh scoops – building relationships andcontacts with police, prosecutors and defence lawyers.
A basic understanding of court reporting is required for thisrole, though ongoing training and mentoring will also be provided by moresenior members of our team.
You’ll have newsroom experience and be committed to deliveringhigh-impact, authentic, relentlessly interesting journalism for our audiences.
Your focus will be digital and print – andthere are also many opportunities in our multimedia operation to be involved inradio, video, podcasting and much more.
Yourattributes and talents will include a dogged pursuit of the truth, andhigh-quality research and writing skills.
A positive attitude and strong communication skills are alsoessential.
