What you will do

You will be responsible for identifying requirements and designing and implementing technical solutions that meet operational needs. These will conform to the Information Environment architecture and are in line with the strategic vision of the unit. You will collaborate with stakeholders to provide concept, feasibility analysis and functional requirements for initiatives.

Working within the Special Operation Network Operations Centre, you will be the primary Network Design Engineer reporting to the Special Forces Information Systems Manager.

What we need

You will bring a significant amount of work experience in an Information Systems environment and have proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with a wide range of people. You will be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team you can think broadly, focus on solutions and work well under pressure.

In order to be successful in this role, you will also have:

  • Demonstrated practical experience in gathering customer requirements, designing and implementing network solutions;
  • Proven experience working with both physical and software based network security appliances;
  • Documentation experience with network designs and building SOP for support teams;
  • Expertise with presenting designs and solutions to wider non-technical audiences/stakeholders;
  • Self-managing medium sized projects; and
  • Experience in working with vendors and contractors.
  • Your network engineering specific experience will include:

  • A certification in Network Infrastructure;
  • Proven hands on experience with Next Generation Firewalls NGFW’s various manufacturers;
  • Sound hands on experience with switching and routing;
  • Excellent network troubleshooting;
  • Virtual appliances; 
  • Cloud based infrastructure; and
  • Writing technical documentation and drawings.
  • It would be an advantage if you have experience with RF technologies; integrating commercial and non-commercial solutions, and/or working in an Agile/SAFe/Scrum environment.

    Please note: This role requires travel as well as having an on call component. You must have a full, clean NZ class 1 driver licence.
