The Team: What we do

One of only four level three rural hospitals in the South Island, and the largest rural health facility in Canterbury, Ashburton and Rural Health Services provide a range of Inpatient, Day patient, Outpatient and Community based services to the community. Best responding to the unique needs of the surrounding rural communities, Ashburton and Rural Health Services rural generalist model of care emphasises integrated care across all of their settings. Closely aligned with this framework is a new and exciting Nurse Manager role on offer: Nurse Manager for Integration – Community and Specialist Services.

The Role: Where you fit in

The Nurse Manager for Integration Service, will assume a critical function in leading our nursing teams in providing effective direction, planning, and delivery of integrated care. The role’s focus will be on outpatient and primary/ community services, ensuring consistent, integrated patient care across, and providing efficient management of: the Outpatients Department, District Nursing, Community based Clinical Nurse Specialists, Needs Assessor Service Coordinators, Home Based Support Services, and the Surgical Procedural day stay and Medical day stay units.

The ideal applicant will:

  • be a senior registered nurse, with at least five years clinical practice, and three years of operational management experience behind them
  • have a proven ability in leading clinical, multidisciplinary teams in a hospital setting, ideally across multiple services
  • possess outstanding clinical knowledge, skills and the ability to mentor, educate, support, inspire and lead others to work with best, rural generalist practice principles
  • be an expert at extending and developing practice; both in improving performance, and identifying and enhancing existing capabilities of staff through the effective and strategic delegation of resources
  • yield resilience and adaptability, especially as this is a new position that is crucial in further advancing Ashburton and Rural Health Service’s rural generalist model of care
  • have a commitment to both responding to Māori health needs in the community, but also where able, of strategic ability and mind to involve more Māori in service provision
  • be registered with the New Zealand Nursing Council, with a current APC.
