NIWA is a dynamic research organisation whose purpose is to enhance the economic value and sustainable management of New Zealand’s aquatic resources and environments, to provide understanding of climate and the atmosphere and increase resilience to weather and climate hazards to improve safety and wellbeing of New Zealanders. NIWA is New Zealand’s largest and pre-eminent provider of climate, freshwater and marine science.Following a recent reshuffle of the administration team, we are currently assessing the workflow and demand for the team’s administration services before deciding on the longer-term staffing requirements. We are seeking a person with excellent interpersonal skills to support our existing Office Administrator/Receptionist on a casual basis, as and when required while we undertake this assessment over the next few months. The work that the team covers is varied, and so the successful candidate will need to be comfortable with working in a small team, to provide a welcoming environment for our visitors along with providing a range of office administration tasks to support science and technical colleagues on site. The casual role requires excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, willingness to help, and the ability to work a flexible schedule.Duties for this role include responsibility for our reception area plus office administration which could include such tasks as booking travel, formatting of reports and proposals prior to release, compiling and preparing the weekly newsletter, scanning documents for archive and organising external catering for meetings and events.The job requires high levels of initiative, great attention to detail and the ability to be flexible and responsive. This opportunity will allow you to showcase your excellent communication and administration skills as well as your ability to prioritise and work autonomously. The hours in this position will vary, but will likely involve working the later part of the working day to cover reception hours, which are 8.30 am to 5.00 pm. The position is based at our NIWA, Hamilton office.
