Do your life’s best work at Auckland DHB

  • Enjoy the great outdoors that New Zealand has to offer!
  • Work alongside some of the most talented and specialised people in the health sector
  • Permanent part-time position

The Auckland District Health Board (ADHB) wishes to appoint a permanent part-time (hours to be negotiated) FTE Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (general Scope) and invites suitably qualified persons to apply.

To be eligible for this role you must hold or be eligible for vocational registration as a specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with the Medical Council and Dental Council of New Zealand. You must have an excellent work record, an ability to integrate as part of a team, and a desire for public service.

The ADHB Regional OMS service provides hospital-based, tertiary level specialist services to 1.6 million people domiciled with the Metro Auckland and Northland District Health Boards of New Zealand.

In this role you would provide regional acute, elective and outpatient specialist OMS services, whilst working within a dedicated team. The acute work is heavily weighted towards facial trauma and odontogenic infections. Elective work undertaken by the team includes dento-alveolar, TMJ, orthognathic and benign/malignant pathology/reconstruction. The OMS service works closely with the Hospital and Specialist Dentistry service and their sub-specialities including oral medicine, restorative prosthodontics, orthodontists and paediatric dentistry. The successful candidate will share after hours and weekend on-call work – on a roster basis, for the 24/7 service.

The current OMS team consists of 8 full & part-time OMS surgeons, 2 full-time trainee registrars, 1 non-training registrar and 2 dental house officers. Auckland is a training centre in OMS surgery, accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS).  You would have the opportunity to participate in Registrar training.

This role is primarily based at Middlemore Hospital with some sessions at Greenlane Clinical Centre and Auckland City Hospital.   Most of the hospital OMS surgeons also work part time in private practice. There are opportunities, in Auckland, for the successful candidate to do likewise.

This is an opportunity for the right person to enjoy the challenge of both public and private work, in a desirable location, ‘down-under’.  New Zealand offers much to those who love the ‘great outdoors’ with its beautiful beaches, native bush and rugged mountains. Auckland is a vibrant city offering international shows, concerts, sporting events, great shopping and great restaruants. Auckland is known as the ‘City of Sails’ due to its proximity to the beautiful Hauraki Gulf islands and because of the passion Aucklanders have for boating.
