The purpose of the Outbound Telesales Consultant is to increase subscription revenue by actively selling subscriptions to prospective subscribers and lapsed or cancelled subscribers of NZME’s publications. These will be predominantly residential but may include some business subscriptions.

We are currently looking to fill 2 part-time roles. 


  • Sales Ability: Able to build rapport and positive working relationships; ascertain subscribers needs through effective questioning techniques and/or up-sell wherever possible
  • Results Orientation: Maintain motivation for personal achievement of results and success; tenaciously working towards exceeding targets and better previous performance. Deriving satisfaction from the process of goal achievement and continuous improvement.
  • Communication: Expressing thoughts, feelings, and ideas effectively in individual and group situations; clearly expressing ideas, correct grammar, and language and terminology; adjusting language to the characteristics and needs of the audience
  • Resilience: Handling disappointment and/or rejection while maintaining effectiveness and not letting emotions take over in a difficult call. Maintain stability of performance under pressure and/or opposition. Use empathy and acknowledgement when dealing with upset or difficult customers
  • Contributing to wider team success: Actively participating as a member of a team to move the team toward the completion of goals

  • Sixth Form to NCEA Level 1 or 2
  • Customer Service/Contact Centre course and/or qualification or experience preferable but not necessary
  • A can-do attitude
