The National Party Leader’s Office has an exciting opportunity for an analytical, and problem solving policy advisor to work at the highest levels of our parliamentary team.

This is a chance for an ambitious policy professional to be part of an exciting, fast-paced team and a high-performing political office.

You will be responsible for supporting the National Party Leader and National Party Caucus by analysing and developing responses to government policy announcements, and to support the development of National Party’s overall policy platform. You will be part of team that respond to daily requests for analysis and advice, so you need to be highly organised and to ensure you work to the highest standard.

This is a busy, full-time role, so the ability to prioritise competing demands and work collaboratively are essential. Some flexibility in hours may be required.

Essential knowledge and skills for the role:

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to come up to speed quickly with new issues, examine them from all sides, and recommend a proposed evidence-based solution
  • Strong writing ability, complemented with sound numerical skills
  • Political acumen and a good understanding of the New Zealand parliamentary environment, as well as party policies and positions
