Mō tō mātou rōpū – About our team

The Horticulture Sector Policy team is growing and looking for two new Policy Analysts. We’re a collegial, supportive team that are working hard to help support one of New Zealand’s biggest and most varied growth industries. The kinds of questions you might grapple with include:

• How can we use examples of best practice industry structures and on-the-ground practices to encourage the sustainable growth of New Zealand’s fruit, wine, vegetable, arable and honey industries?
• How can we influence policy outcomes to achieve the right balance between protecting New Zealand and pursuing sustainable growth of the horticulture sector?
• Are any changes needed to improve the efficiency and integrity of horticulture legislation?
• How can we ensure the continued supply of affordable fruit and vegetables for New Zealanders, while also growing exports?
• What are the next billion dollar horticulture industries?

We are seeking two smart and enthusiastic people who:

• Can apply critical thinking and analytical skills to challenge the status quo
• Provide clear, concise, well-reasoned, articulate and practical advice
• Can take a broad perspective and make connections between commercial, environmental and social issues
• Bring a ‘can do’ attitude and take ownership of their work to deliver the best results
• Have strong interpersonal skills and the desire to make a positive contribution to the team
• Have experience in either a policy/regulatory role or a commercial/business role
• Can organise themselves to deliver work and projects to a high standard on-time, both independently and with others.
• Has knowledge or a strong interest in New Zealand’s primary sectors and how they operate within environmental, economic, social and political decision-making
• Horticulture experience is beneficial but not essential.
