The International Environment team at the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is looking for smart, driven Analysts to join them. The team is at the international forefront in delivering MPI’s ambition, working to ensure that as New Zealand builds towards being the world’s most sustainable provider of food, we are operating in an even global playing field which recognises our sustainability credentials.
MPI’s International Policy Directorate leads international engagement on a range of international and bilateral issues of interest to New Zealand’s primary sector, including trade, sustainability and economic growth, and establishes and represents New Zealand’s position in various international fora.
The International Environment team’s work spans international agriculture, forestry, and sustainable food system policy issues relating to climate change, biodiversity, sustainable forest management and sustainable development. The team contributes to, and participates in, a range of international environmental fora in order to protect and promote New Zealand views and positions in relation to sustainable production, sustainable resource use and international environmental governance.
Ko te tangata mo tēnei tūranga? – Who are we looking for?
If you have excellent writing and verbal skills and are a self-starter that can identify effective solutions and be able to respond to requests that often appear unexpectedly with short time frames, then this could be the role for you. You also need to excel in relationship management as you will be building a record of positive engagement within MPI and externally.
Senior Policy Analyst: we’re looking for someone with strong policy, and strategic systems thinking experience to coordinate our sustainable food systems work program to develop and negotiate government positions.
Policy Analyst: we’re looking for someone with policy and stakeholder management experience to support our broader work program and transition into leading our negotiations at the Convention on Biological Diversity
