This portfolio works with and enables New Zealand designers, companies and consumers to create, manufacture and utilise bioproducts and packaging for a sustainable future. This approach integrates the design and growing of specific feedstock (e.g. trees) with the manufacture of advanced biomaterials into a variety of industries and sectors. Impact will be achieved through a myriad of industrial value chains – ultimately creating sustainable jobs and unlocking future investments.This portfolio targets impact in several critical areas such as:Onshore manufacture of bioproducts and biopolymers with specific focus on novel performance polymersEnabling designers, brand owners and manufacturers to meet sustainability commitments for packaging – including the development of reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging solutionsConversion of atmospheric carbon to bioproducts – e.g. harnessing nature’s ability to utilise methane or CO2 to produce biomass/bioproductsThe successful candidate will ensure that Scion is able to drive sustainability and circularity across all value chains and place bioproducts and packaging as a powerful jobs and economic stimulus accelerator in the circular bioeconomy.Reporting to the GM Impact Area for Forests to Biobased Products this role is vital to ensuring Scion achieves its strategic objectives and the successful candidate will be a leader of ambitious and innovative teams with a focus on collaboration and delivery of impact.
