What you will do

We are part-way through a large business transformation programme of work that is significantly enhancing NZDF’s complex ICT operations. As part of this change we have multiple management opportunities that will see you join our Enterprise Products and Systems (EPS) Portfolio. The newly established EPS teams are responsible for the strategic direction, maintenance, and continuous improvement of NZDF technology including end user technologies, platforms, infrastructure and deployable capabilities. Teams will mostly be less than 12 and will include managing teams of Engineers, Senior Engineers, Test & Automation Engineers, Product Designers, Product Analysts and Solution Designers.

This role will see you balancing both the business needs of the organisation as well as your team’s individual skills and capabilities. You will be responsible for team leadership, career direction & development and performance management of the team, playing a pivotal part in ensuring all areas of EPS are enabled to effectively deliver their core functions.

What we need

In this critical role, your leadership, vision and creativity will ensure that the Portfolio’s technology environment meets the needs of the overall business. You have a demonstrable track record of leading people, process and technology and consider yourself to be a natural leader with the proven ability to motivate people, comfortable taking accountability and leading change.
To be successful in this role, you will also be:

  •       Motivated, embrace change, unafraid to challenge the status quo, and focused on outcomes;
  •       An effective and efficient communicator on all thing’s technology, to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike;
  •       A good leader and manager of people; inspirational, challenging, ambitious;
  •       Highly collaborative; great at building relationships and fostering trust;
  •       A growth and learning mind-set; our business is changing so we need you to be agile.

Who we are

NZDF’s Communication and Information Systems (CIS) Branch provides the core information and communication services that underpin New Zealand Defence operations. We are entrusted to deliver and support the Defence technology that helps keep New Zealanders safe. So we’re not your typical corporate IT department:

  •       We provide support to more than 14,000 military and civilian Defence Force personnel who are dispersed on seven continents, often in geographically remote, hostile environments;
  •       Our solutions are deployed to personal devices, vehicles, ships and planes; and
  •       We’re here to deliver military outcomes, not just the technology behind them.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.  As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.
Why Us

NZDF is an inclusive organisation that is open to flexible working arrangements and welcomes applications from people regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, age, beliefs/opinions, or family circumstances.

NZDF has a unique culture that is underpinned by our shared values of courage, commitment, comradeship and integrity. From day one you are part of a community that prides itself in protecting our country, giving you real purpose. In addition you will be given access to:

  •       Coaching
  •       Flexible working arrangements
  •       Trust to make a meaningful difference.

NZDF relies more on technology today than ever before. In this role you will have the opportunity to make a difference to New Zealand’s military personnel.  Using yours, and your teams, experience in technology and delivery you will deliver great outcomes for our military and New Zealand as a whole.

We are extremely proud of the great benefits for you and your family when you join NZDF!
We expect to appoint around the midpoint of the salary band for this role which is $120k – $127k inclusive of a 4% employer superannuation contribution. This may be negotiable depending on experience.
