SE&S – Sector Enablement and Support

Our teams around the country work closely with the Early Childhood and Schooling sectors, providers, and communities to provide support, expertise and resources to help children and young people reach their full potential.

About this role

The SAF Practitioner works alongside kura and schools facilitating a process of inquiry-based change which starts with the student at the centre and ends in the successful implementation of a sustainable solution that;

  • Significantly accelerates the rate of progress for those most underserved;
  • Builds school capability to continue to lead change for ongoing improvement.

The Practitioner will also;

  • Support the school or kura to work alongside parents, families and whanau
  • Support kura and school leaders to provide learning and teaching experiences for Māori, Pasifika, students with special needs and students from low socio-economic families that reinforces their identity, language and culture as critical to maximising valued learning outcomes.
  • Contribute to the wider Ministry shared understandings of raising student achievement.
  • Play a key role in raising capability of the regional team to work with a kura or school, to achieve sustainable, systemic change in lifting student achievement that values social, cultural and academic student outcomes.

About you

To be successful you will have;

  • Extensive background knowledge and experience in teaching and learning, leadership, curriculum and assessment theory and practice, and ability to support professional change at a school level.
  • Experiential knowledge and competencies in supporting shifts in teacher and/or leadership practice.
  • A tertiary qualification in education, leadership or related areas.
  • An understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications for the work of the Ministry of Education.
  • Cultural competence, capability and credibility and understanding the relevance of identity, language and culture for Māori, Pasifika and students with special education needs.
  • High level professional judgement, adaptive and responsive.
  • Experience in effective leadership of significant and complex issues in an educational and community context.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to meet changing needs of central and or local government.
  • The ability to develop effective working relationships and build credibility with customers at all levels, team members, and colleagues
  • Initiative – proactively looks for new and innovative ways of approaching situations and solving problems.
  • Integrity – maintains and promotes social, ethical and organisational norms in internal and external business activities.
