About the Role and team:

The Principal Risk Adviser role provides risk management services to the organisation including strategic and intellectual leadership in relation to the development of corporate risk management.  The role also provides assurance on the adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of the risk management framework and associated controls over MPI’s systems, governance and performance.  The role reports to the Director Audit, Risk and Evaluation within the MPI Compliance and Governance branch. 

Key duties:

The role is responsible for developing and implementing best practice risk management framework, policies and processes.  This includes engaging with key stakeholder, facilitating risk workshops and providing thought leadership. Key duties include:

  • Ensuring the Ministry has a consistent approach to the identification and management of risk.
  • Assisting the director to develop and implement the risk management framework by identifying, evaluating and managing risks, providing advice, guidance and tools to the business to better manage their risks.
  • Confirming that external service providers to MPI are delivering within contractual expectations and obligations by oversighting those providers where they are providing risk management services.

Skills and Experience: 

We are looking for a forward thinking Principal Risk Adviser who is able to provide thought leadership to give effect to strategic outcomes for risk.  Our ideal candidate will be a strong conceptual thinker, who has a pragmatic approach to problem identification, problem solving and implementation of enterprise risk management framework and best practices.  Ideally we are looking for someone with a relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience in risk management.

You will also have excellent communication and relationship management skills. The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively is important because the role will see you partner with the business and at times, external stakeholders and industry groups. Your ability to understand both the wider strategic and operational business related environments in which organisations work is also important.

Salary range for this role is $126,977 to $164,000 depending on skill set and experience.
