Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team

Our teams in the Policy and Trade Branch provide strategic policy advice and analysis on biosecurity matters. We help ensure that our world-leading biosecurity system protects New Zealand’s economic, social, cultural, and environmental well-being from pests and diseases. We regulate the border and help ensure that domestic biosecurity responses have the tools they need. We work closely with industry to preserve and grow our productive and successful primary sector. Our teams include analysts with backgrounds in science, arts and humanities, veterinary medicine, and the law.

Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the roles

We have multiple roles for principal advisors who are looking to join one of our teams. We are after accomplished policy professionals with extensive experience in public policy. The focus of these roles in on policy and functional leadership rather than deep technical knowledge.

Ko te tangata mo tēnei tūranga? – Who are we looking for?

  • Tertiary qualification
  • Extensive public policy experience
  • Expert knowledge of government systems and processes
  • Significant record of exercising functional and intellectual leadership
  • Record of successful delivery of complex and risky policy projects, with a leading role played by the candidate
  • Exceptional communication skills (oral and written)
  • Highly-developed analytical skills
  • Collaborative working style; and
  • Ability to network and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders, decision-makers and Ministers.
