Principal Advisor, Communications and Engagement

Audit New Zealand provides audit and assurance services to the public sector and carries out annual audits allocated by the Auditor-General. It also provides other assurance services to public entities within the Auditor-General’s mandate.

Reporting to the Executive Director, your responsibilities include developing and implementing communications strategies and plans, engaging with key stakeholders, and advising management on a day-to-day basis on internal and external communications.

For this role, you’ll:

  • be developing and implementing stakeholder engagement strategies;
  • manage Audit New Zealand’s corporate identity, reputation, and brand;
  • have editorial responsibility for internal and external newsletters;
  • provide management advice to mitigate risks and develop messaging and plans for issues and crises;
  • manage marketing communications and social media; and
  • write speeches and give guidance on presentation skills.

You’ll have:

  • a tertiary qualification (or equivalent) in communications or related discipline;
  • demonstrated experience in communications at a senior level;
  • proven competency in social media;
  • excellent oral and written skills in plain English; and
  • a demonstrated political awareness and understanding of the public sector.

This is a senior role requiring someone who is comfortable working with senior management, while having the ability to roll up their sleeves and deliver innovative solutions.
