The Ministry of Health is the lead national Public Health agency and has been operating with a COVID Health Response structure for the past 8 months. It is recognised that an ongoing response is required to support the achievements to date, and the Ministry has established a COVID Directorate to provide oversight of all activities contributing to the Ministry’s COVID-19 response. It is led by the Deputy Chief Executive COVID Directorate and is accountable for the Ministry’s COVID-19 plan. The functions within the Directorate work in close collaboration with each other, across the Ministry and the wider All of government response.
The Testing Strategy Team implements the COVID-19 testing strategy through the management of the testing work programme across border and community settings, provides updated operational policies and assistance that will provide guidance to those who need to deploy testing (e.g DHBs), monitor and record testing data.

The role of Principal Advisor is a new role that is responsible for the provision of robust advice to Manager, Deputy Chief Executive, Director General and others in the Ministry, the Ministers office and the health sector around the future state of the scope and requirements from the COVID-19 Testing Strategy workstream.
