This role is within the Disability Directorate of the Ministry of Health, and is part of the team that provides direct operational support to the Deputy Director-General.  Our Directorate provides leadership and stewardship to the disability sector to ensure an equitable, fair and sustainable support system that delivers on the Government’s priorities for people with a disability and their family/whanau.


We are looking for a special person to step into our Principal Advisor role in the Office of the Deputy Director-General.  This office is the executive function of the Directorate with some high level administration, and is a critical role in a team that provides execuitve support to the Deputy Director-General and the Senior Leadership team as well as strong business support to the wider Directorate.


The heart and can do attitude you bring to your work is as critical to us as your skillset.  We want you to be excited by the challenge of setting up a new office and ‘making a difference’ in an operational role.  


You may be someone with a broad operational experience who is looking to stretch their capability in new ways.  You may be someone who has a government advisory background and wants a role that is different.  We’d like to hear from you if you:

  • have a good understanding of machinery of Government
  • have an eye for detail as well as the big picture
  • are able to balance improvement and innovation with BAU
  • can drive streamlined business processes and review for continuous improvement
  • manage and provide dashboards on departmental budgets/performance   
  • love business planning and reporting, coordinating briefings, weekly reports, PQ’s, OIA’s and Ministerials as well as overseeing the production of high quality Ministers reports.
