We are looking to appoint a Principal Clinical Advisor into the Mental Health and Addictions Directorate, Ministry of Health.  The Directorate’s work is focussed on implementation of the Government’s response to He Ara Oranga, the Report of the Inquiry into Mental Health and Addiction.

 

This challenging and important role will provide high quality strategic advice, clinical leadership, anlaysis and recommendations that support the Directorate to deliver its work programme.  You will act as the subject matter expert on mental health and addictions, work across the Directorate and wider Ministry and maintain strong working relationships enabling effective collaboration with stakeholders.  

 

The Ministry of Health is the kaitiaki of the health and disability system in New Zealand.  We are responsible for providing active stewardship and leadership across the nation’s health and disability system.  We ensure the system provides people with the highest levels of care, regardless of who they are or where they live.

 

You will bring the following experience:

  • Registered Mental Health Practitioner clinical qualification and relevant sector leadership experience
  • Current Annual Practising Certificate
  • Expertise in mental health and addictions, including from a Māori world view.
  • Experience of working across specialist services and/or primary and community services in mental health and addictions at a senior level is desirable.
  • Exceptional communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence a range of key internal and external stakeholders, at all levels
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills, and the ability to write for a range of audiences
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and whānau, hapū, iwi needs, engagement and context. Understanding of te reo Māori me ona tikanga would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge and experience of public health approaches that impact on health inequalities would be an advantage
  • A collegial attitude and desire to work with colleagues to achieve results, and share your knowledge and expertise to support the growth of the team
  • Government experience is not a requirement, but may be beneficial
