He angitūtanga: About the Role

The Principal Governance Advisor reports to the Governance and Performance Manager. As our next Principal Advisor, you will be responsible for providing expert governance, and performance monitoring advice to DOC, support conservation statutory entities in the development and management of funding bids, and the Minister of Conservation by providing owners interest advice relating to all statutory boards as set out in Conservation Legislation.


He kōrero mōu: What we are looking for

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • A sound understanding of the machinery of government and the role of department in relation to Crown entities
  • An understanding of Te Ao and Mātauranga Māori
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • To be able to distil information from a variety of sources and quickly develop sound advice
  • Expertise in clear concise business writing including Ministerial correspondence and reports
  • Excellent verbal communication with strong influencing skills
  • Proven ability to quickly build trusting relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at a senior level including board Chairs
  • Demonstrated experience in the identification of risks and options available to mitigate these risks


Ideally you will also have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Experience monitoring in the Crown environment
