We are seeking a Principal Policy Advisor to join our Economic Development and Transitions Branch.
The Principal Policy Advisor is a leadership position in MBIE. You will work with other advisors and the EDT branch leadership team to shape and deliver the branch’s work programme and build the culture of the branch, with significant potential to coach and mentor other team members. You will bring your proven policy, relationship and delivery skills to support our work with key partners.
To transform the economy to be more productive, sustainable and inclusive, we need firms to invest more broadly that they have previously while remaining productive and competitive. Investment Policy seeks to accelerate economic development by ensuring we have the right investment settings and that businesses at different stages of their journey have the access to finance they need to take advantage of growth-enabling activities. This includes having deeper pools of capital in specific markets, support for ‘smart capital’ and increased investor capability, and that Government investment settings are aligned across multiple stakeholders.
The team engages widely with other policy and operational teams within MBIE and across government. We work across regions and sectors and with firms at all levels of capability.
We are looking for a big picture thinker who can bring a range of analytics and relationships to bear to create meaningful, actionable policies and cross-agency co-ordination.

Knowledge of the investment landscape, investment policy or financial economics would be an added advantage.
