Auckland is growing fast, and our Integrated Networks Division is growing at a pace to match. Our Public Transport, Facilities & Structures (Projects) team have a large number of small to medium sized projects focussed on renewing and upgrading the rail and marine public transport networks as well as Auckland Transport structures and facilities, to create a safe, resilient network and to provide an excellent customer experience. 

About the role

A day in the life of a Principal Project Manager (PT, Rail, Marine or Structures)

  • Leading project teams to deliver complex infrastructure projects within the rail, marine and/or structures environments, in accordance with AT Business objectives, optimising time, cost, and quality project performance outcomes
  • Leading multiple simultaneous projects within rail, marine or structures fields, from development through to asset handover including management of design consultants and physical works contractors
  • Leading by example and mentoring others in the practical application of project management best practice, processes, principles and reporting
  • Initiating and leading complex tender processes and implementing effective procurement strategies and governance arrangements to monitor supplier performance
  • Contributing your experience and expertise pertaining to industry legislation, regulations, guidelines, standards and project controls
  • Engagement and/or collaboration and with internal and external stakeholders to understand project requirements, review designs, develop construction strategies, etc
  • Supporting the development of junior team members.
  • About you – To Succeed in this role you will: 

  • Have a successful track record of leading project teams delivering projects within the rail, marine or structures fields from initiation to asset handover
  • Be a Project Management subject matter expert (SME) with relevant postgraduate or professional qualification (PMP or PRINCE2 or equivalent) 
  • Have a thorough, practical understanding of the application of safety in investigation, design and construction project stages including relevant Health & Safety regulations and legislation
  • High level of business acumen with a focus on financial, commercial and contractual literacy, as well as stakeholder and strategic awareness
  • Be driven to achieve successful outcomes, delegate effectively and empower others; utilising all resources effectively to achieve the best outcomes
  • Have a relevant industry-recognised tertiary qualification in engineering, construction, or project management – bachelor’s degree, diploma, or certificate 
  • Have a solid understanding and appreciation of the workings and functions of local government, including current and future business drivers and statutory requirements
  • Be customer oriented while maintaining a best for project, delivery and quality focus.
