Propellerhead are a leading software-services company, designing, delivering and maintaining large-scale digital platforms. Our clients include Auckland Transport, New Zealand Rugby, AvidAML, BlinkPay, Centre of Possibility, Starship Children’s Hospital, SkyBus, Dimension GRC, Spark, ESR, Ministry of Education, New Zealand Post, and Auckland Museum.Focusing on leanness and flexibility, the team you’ll join will be internally self-organising, allowing you to focus on managing work rather than people. How We Build Software: Taking our lead from the world of software product development, we structure solutions in a product-centric manner; continuously delivering improvements from a backlog of features. These features are taken from real stakeholder needs linked to clear objectives. Our digital platforms are a mixture of custom components and external services that can be combined for a powerful and engaging experience. Our guiding principle is to only write code necessary to deliver experiences unique to users. The Role: We are looking for someone strong in product architecture design to join our team. You will bring technical vision and extensive experience to Propellerhead, helping us to continue producing software solutions in an agile, lean and evolutionary manner. You will lead and guide the design of complex systems, and we’ll depend on your judgement, opinion and insights to ensure that early delivery and continuous improvement is possible. You will set standards for programming and lead the selection of technologies. You will be a strong team player, eliciting ideas from others and sharing technical ownership.Far from being a theorist, you will be a confident hands-on programmer. You’ll be up with the play on emerging trends and be able to quickly prototype new ideas to judge their value.Your role will support our product owners to plan ahead on a portfolio of product roadmaps. You will be instrumental in the pre-sales process, communicating with technical and non-technical client representatives. Rather than being blindly enamoured by shiny technology, you will be constantly focussed on finding appropriate solutions to deliver the highest return on investment for our customers.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Experience achieving strategic objectives with lean product roadmaps. Using agile approaches to deliver small increments of software in valuable chunks.
  • Minimum 10 years development of multi-tier and distributed applications in backend and frontend, preferably in .NET, Java, or Node and React, Angular or similar font-end frameworks
  • Hands-on experience with designing solutions on cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS, including active participation in building CI/CD pipelines
  • At least 8 years experience in leading the design of complex software applications. You will have been responsible for the architecture of solutions comprised of existing services and custom development. You will have owned development standards and the effective implementation of the design
  • You are regarded as a valued advisor to clients and colleagues, balancing technical excellence with commercial pragmatism. You will have demonstrated this in pre-sales situations and/or the preparation of internal business cases
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate and translate complex topics with clarity to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This includes verbally and using lightweight documentation
  • You will do your best work in a team, working harmoniously with others to meet shared objectives
  • Demonstrable experience in quickly creating proof-of-concepts to validate solution decisions using unfamiliar technologies. Confidently leading the adoption of new technologies while minimising risk
  • Experienced in a breadth of problem domains and/or solution types, you will have a proven ability to quickly adapt patterns and learning from one situation to one not previously encountered
  • Career evidence of getting things done: staying organised, building rapport, and following through on work while having others’ best interests at heart
  • Benefits: – Developer-lead organisation- Interesting, diverse, commercially-minded projects for big clients- World-class colleagues- Equal opportunity workplace, free from discrimination- A culture of collaboration and learning- Plenty of office perks and beautifully designed offices in the heart of Auckland
