About the role | Mō te tūnga

E ketekete te kaakaa, e koekoe te tui, e kuukuu te kereru. Tenei te mahi o te kaiaarahi.

The kaka chatters, the tui challenges and the kereru pacifies. This is the work of the facilitator.

Our Programme Facilitators work with men, women and youth in prison and in the community, helping them to understand and address the causes of their offending to assist them to create crime-free futures. 

They do this through delivering a range of clinically designed therapeutic programmes, either individually or with a co-facilitator.

Programme Facilitators come from different backgrounds, cultures, education and experience – but they all share the ability to motivate and work alongside others to support them to make positive changes in their lives.

Who does well as a Programme Facilitator? To be successful in this role, you will be someone who enjoys working with people and want to help them gain insight into their harmful behaviours. You will be comfortable walking alongside people on their journey.

It is a role for someone who wants to facilitate change through questioning and guiding. This is not a role for someone who just wants to direct, instruct, or teach people. Needless to say, you’ll also be an excellent listener.

It would be helpful if you have an understanding of individual and group behaviour, and / or relevant tertiary education in psychology, social work, counselling or a related area.

The starting salary for this position is $61,267 and please note that the close date is Thursday 5th March 2020.

If sucessfully shortlisted please note we will be holding interviews on Wednesday 11th March 2020 at Otago Corrections Facility. You will also be expected to interview face to face and unable to accomodate a video interview for this position.

About you | Mōu

  • Are effective listeners and communicators and who have the ability to build strong positive relationships with participants and other stakeholders
  • Ideally have experience in delivering and facilitating therapeutic interventions, either individual or, ideally, group therapy
  • Have life experience that means you can work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and ethnic groups
  • Have knowledge, or are willing to learn about Maori culture, protocols and peoples and apply kaupapa Maori practice in your work
  • Are comfortable having their practice viewed and receptive in receiving and utilising regular feedback on their practice
  • Have experience with report writing
  • An excellent problem solver
  • An ability to be resilient when faced with challenging situations or behaviours

You will need to have a full New Zealand Drivers Licence, as travelling is required at times within the district.
